How to do Worm Farming for Vegetable Garden?4 min read

Caring your Vermicomposting Bin

  1. If the worms are seen crawling on the lid or on the top wall of your compost bin, then that means the temperature in the bin is not ideal. Worms need optimum temperature first to remain in the soil and second to carry out decomposing process. Keep in mind that vermiculture runs at its best at the temperature around 40 to 80 oF.
  2. A powerful smell coming out from your compost bin is an indicator of excess food material in the bin. Or in other words, you have added excess food in the bin that is more than the capacity of worms to decompose. Usually, uneaten and big chunks of food needs to be removed from the compost bin immediately if your find the bin smelly.
  3. The compost bin should not be airtight. There are small pores already present on the compost bin. If holes are not present, they can be made using a pin.
  4. Keep your compost bin out of the reach of mice and other animals in vegetable garden, so that they don’t enter and disturb your worms.
